Join Marketing for Change (M4C) for a daylong workshop designed to help you incorporate behavior change strategies and tactics into your program or campaign. The training will be led by Sara Isaac, an experienced trainer and marketing strategist who has designed and implemented behavior change campaigns across the country for federal, state and local government, as well as nonprofits and foundations. The workshop will begin with an overview of social marketing theory and practice, examining the determinants of behavior, the basics of campaign development, and real world successes and failures. It is designed to create a baseline of understanding around behavior change marketing. Next, Sara will lead you step by step through the process of determining your target behaviors, target audiences, and the behavioral determinants most likely to effect change. You will receive individualized guidance throughout the day and leave with a draft plan for a behavior change intervention.
Participants of this training will:
- Develop a deeper understanding of the elements of a social marketing strategy and how those can benefit tobacco control
- Learn how to select specific behaviors to influence, and the behavioral determinants most likely to effect change
- Learn how to design a marketing offer that resonates with target audiences through the creation of personas
Sara Isaac is the Director of Strategy and Planning at Marketing for Change, one of the nation's lead behavior change marketing agencies. A senior strategist, experienced focus group moderator, and frequent facilitator and trainer, Sara specializes in the art and science of translating audience insights into breakthrough behavior change campaigns that work in the real world. At Marketing for Change, Sara has led some of the agency's most talked about campaigns, including Easier Ways to Save, a humorous water conservation campaign that helped the City of Santa Monica, Calif, reduce citywide water usage by 20 percent; and BeFloridian, an environmental campaign that helped restore critical seagrass beds by encouraging Tampa Bay residents to "protect fun" and reduce fertilizer runoff into local waterways. She helped the Orange County (Fla.) department of health create the business case for smoke-free bars, and supported the Winter Park Health Foundation's Breathe Free Initiative to encourage local restaurants to eliminate smoking at outdoor patios. Sara holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis and a master’s in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Relations. She is currently pursuing a master’s in Behavioral Science from the London School of Economics.

Formed in 1997, The Chronic Disease Prevention Council (CDPC) is a multidisciplinary body of experts seeking to reduce chronic disease in New Mexico. Through quarterly meetings, the Council creates a forum for collaboration and communication to break down disease specific silos and focus on prevention and control issues for chronic diseases, including arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and diseases related to obesity and tobacco use.
CDPC is responsible for the facilitation of the New Mexico Shared Strategic Plan (NMSSP) created by a statewide leadership team in 2010. The NMSSP combines state-level chronic disease specific plans, identifying common risk factors, promoting multi-level prevention and management strategies, and aiming to improve health at both the individual and community level. CDPC and the application of the NMSSP will result in a more coordinated, concerted effort that taps into the skills, talents, and experience of a diversity of organizations. The New Mexico Allied Council on Tobacco (NM ACT) is a workgroup of the CDPC.
